Good to know

USDOT verification questions

What is a USDOT number?

A USDOT number is the unique ID the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration assigns to companies that haul goods across state lines. Every legitimate interstate household mover is required to have one and keep it active.

Where do I find a mover's USDOT number?

It is usually printed on the side of the moving truck and listed on the company's written estimate, website, or invoice. If a mover will not share it, treat that as a red flag.

The company is not in your directory — does that mean it is a scam?

Not necessarily. Our directory does not yet include every licensed mover in the country. If a company is not listed, look it up directly on the FMCSA SAFER record to confirm its authority and insurance are active before you book.

What is the difference between "listed" and "Vetted and Verified"?

A listed company appears in our directory but has not been independently checked. A Vetted and Verified company has passed our full review of operating authority, insurance, and complaint history, and carries our gold badge.
